Mommy and Me Potty Time Potty Training System with DVD

I’ve been having a devil of a time potty training my kids. I have the potty chair, panties, and a bunch of scrubbed patches on the floor.

I was looking for something beyond “put them on a potty chair every hour on the hour” and “reward them when they do well” – it’s difficult to reward them when they’ve not once successfully gone in the potty chair, and this promised reward just seems to lurk beyond their reach.

It’s really sad.

So when I saw the Mommy and Me Potty Time Potty Training System with DVD, I thought it would be worth a shot.

What It Comes With

  • Monkey wristband/bracelet with sturdy velcro closure. It says “it’s potty time” every half-hour to help remind the little one.
  • DVD called The ABCs of Potty Training.
  • Stuffed mouse with boxers that can be pulled down but not removed.
  • Play toilet that flushes when you push a button on top. Lid also can be moved up and down.
  • Sink that makes watery sounds and says “good job, you remembered to wash your hands.”
  • Hippo with a trophy that says positive phrases to be used once child goes potty successfully.
  • A success chart and stickers to be used when the potty gets used, when the toilet gets flushed, and when hands get washed. Chart is made of cardboard and has a ribbon for hanging.

My Expectations

When I brought the box home, I was excited. I figured the DVD would have instructions on how to potty train effectively using the kit, and the bracelet would be a lifesaver to helping my 3 year old remember to go even if she was playing in another room.

While I’m not sure how the stuffed animal and the pretend toilet and sink were going to help, I was willing to take any help I could get, and if having the purple mouse pull down it’s undies and go potty would help…so be it!

Results After Testing

We’ve actually had a little less success since installing the system. I’m not sure if it’s just my child or if this is an overall issue. The DVD is only screenshots with a fun ABC soundtrack and cartoons of happy animals. It doesn’t really give any kind of instruction on how to use the system for maximum effectiveness.

The kids love the toys and play with them regularly.

The monkey timer I thought would be my lifesaver – well – my daughters both figured out how to reset it already so it never has a chance to go off when it is supposed to. Even my 2 year old reset it on several occasions. Once I explained the situation to my 3 year old she left the monkey alone, but never seemed to listen to the monkey when it told her to try to go.

But, when she wanted candy she came in and we talked about the stickers and she was very excited and sat on the potty for almost a half hour. So I think the system is going to be very effective over time.

Conclusion

I’m glad I purchased it, and I love the stickers and the progress chart. It’s a nice small size that looks good and doesn’t take up too much room. The girls love to play with the toys, and even if the DVD was less than I was hoping for, there are enough sites on the Internet that I can get potty training tips from that I don’t require a DVD for help. The monkey bracelet/wristband will be great once my daughter understands the connection between a monkey on her wrist talking to her and needing to hang out on the potty chair for a while.
