When I received the brightly colored, freeze dried snacks in the mail my first thought was, “Oh my gosh! It’s astronaut food…but healthy!”

My next thought was, “What is up with that monkey?” But I did not have much time to consider that because the overwhelming jazz music on the website along with the constant movement kind of made me think I was having an acid flashback. (Just a guess, as I’ve never done acid.)

Of course, the website and the monkey aren’t what we’re here for. We’re here to discover if the Funky Monkey freeze dried gluten-free organic fruit snacks that are cholesterol free TASTE good and if they’re something I’ll give to my toddlers…

Oh ING I Think I Love You!

June 26, 2008 · by Jennifer Gniadecki · Filed Under MommyBlog Reviews · Comment

imageWhen I was younger (around 2000) I worked for a huge company in downtown Chicago. One of the things I discovered when I was working there was a bank called ING. It’s a completely virtual bank.

I thought about it again today because the subject of savings accounts came up and I told Randy, “I don’t want to be able to see the money. It has to be gone.” His fear is that we might have an overdraft due to a temporary forgetful moment or some automatic bill that comes out we weren’t prepared for.

So we’ve come to a compromise. I get an ING savings account *yea!* but we’re going to do it a little differently than a normal person might. Half of what we save goes into the regular savings account, and half goes into the ING account.

With interest rates at 3% for a no-minimum savings account, it would be silly not to. Our normal savings account through our brick and mortar bank is .20% (yes you read it right – POINT TWO percent – eek!)

Even CD’s aren’t getting the interest rates that the regular savings account has with ING.

The really mind blowing thing is that they have a checking account with no minimum and no NSF fees (you pay interest on the money you overdraft) that makes 1.75% in interest. Right now with all the investment stuff from banks being in the proverbial toilet…this is just an amazing rate.

I’m excited about finally getting in on that hot, hot action.

Cloth Diapers: introduction

June 22, 2008 · by Rebecca Froebe · Filed Under MommyBlog Reviews · 2 Comments

For the first 6 months of my daughter’s life, we used disposable diapers 100%. Back when I was pregnant, I mentioned to a few people (including my husband) that I wanted to use cloth diapers. I could not articulate my reasoning, but I knew it was what I wanted for our baby.

6 month old MiriamWell, you know how it is when you are pregnant, everyone else’s opinion takes on a much greater weight because you (or at least I was) are full of self-doubt. So, I listened to mothers who hadn’t used a cloth diaper since the early 1980’s, and I listened to people who don’t have the same priorities as my husband and I, and I listened to my husband; who frankly was scared, and whose goal was to make things as easy as possible.

So, we went the Pampers and Huggies route. It was easy. It was convenient. It was cheap.

A few weeks ago though, I decided that it was time to make the switch. I ordered a few different types of diapers, and will be reviewing them over the next few weeks. We’ll see if my preconceptions were right. We’ll see if my husband can handle the change. We’ll learn things we probably aren’t even expecting to learn. Here’s the details:

PearBudget – Really Simple Budgeting (Review & Giveaway)

After reviewing Mint a while ago I screamed and stomped my feet wondered about the absence of a student loan section/category. After I was done complaining about that, I moved on to the absolute insistence of credit card entries in the system. Well, you could leave them off but it was over a quarter of the screen that just sat there doing nothing because it could only be used for credit card information.

So, where was the budgeting system for those of us who aren’t rocking four bank accounts and a few credit cards? Those of us who may only have a bank account, a PayPal account, and no credit cards.

Charlie Park of PearBudget contacted me and offered me a pretty sweet deal for a completely honest review. How could I say no?

Well, I am a classic. I love popcorn plain. However, I also love popcorn with the following toppings: butter and salt, caramel, chocolate, chocolate and marshmallows (mmmm good), and peanut butter.

I think the craziest I ever thought I was being was when I poured the chocolate and mixed mini marshmallows in it. It was fantastic!!! It’s a big treat in my house and with my daughters Girl Scout Troupe.

I melt chocolate chips in the microwave and pour over my popcorn. Sometimes I add a dash of cinnamon to give it just a little different flavor.

I will be sending an email directly to the winners for address information. Winners then have until Monday at Noon CST to reply with an address to send the prize to or we will pick a new winner.

For everyone: check back here after 1pm CST for our next review & giveaway!
