Funky Monkey Fruit Snacks Review

When I received the brightly colored, freeze dried snacks in the mail my first thought was, “Oh my gosh! It’s astronaut food…but healthy!”
My next thought was, “What is up with that monkey?” But I did not have much time to consider that because the overwhelming jazz music on the website along with the constant movement kind of made me think I was having an acid flashback. (Just a guess, as I’ve never done acid.)
Of course, the website and the monkey aren’t what we’re here for. We’re here to discover if the Funky Monkey freeze dried gluten-free organic fruit snacks that are cholesterol free TASTE good and if they’re something I’ll give to my toddlers…
What It Came With

With the package from the PR company we got a press release my kids colored all over and four packages of Funky Monkey Fruit Snacks. One of each flavor: Bananamon (certified organic), Carnival Mix, Jivealime, and Purple Funk (certified organic).
While you and I might think of Purple Funk and think Jimi Hendrix. Oh wait. I think they did too. On one of the website pages (did I mention I highly recommend you visit the website immediately?) there is a monkey in one of those knit hats with the cords that hang down from both sides. It’s a good time. (it’s on the flavors page.) I’m pretty certain the monkey mascot of the Funky Monkey company has at least one hackey sack and knows how to use it.
My Expectations
It’s astronaut food – how could this be a bad thing?
The Results
My personal favorite is the Jivealime. It is SOUR (being freeze dried pineapple and lime) – I considered popping one of the limes into a margarita, but was too busy scarfing them down to stop and make a margarita.
The kids fought over bags and my husband reached over them crane-style to swipe some freeze dried bananas when he could. The kids tried to grab them out of his hands. It was a serious free-for-all. These are TASTY!

While I might not consider buying fruit snacks from a monkey in a pimp hat under normal circumstances (and it is, my friends…it is…) now that I’ve tasted these yummy, good for you fruit snacks I am going to be having Amazon ship them by the case.
My kids’ favorite was the Carnival Mix, my husband’s favorite was the Bananamon, and we all liked the Purple Funk.
Plus, they’re fruit. Non-messy fruit. I love knowing I can give my kids healthy stuff without them turning my living room into a massacre scene. No banana on my walls, no pineapple stickiness on my armchair. Funky Monkey is a really, really good product.

I’m with ya! Can’t get enough of that Funky Monkey!

Wow. 19-21 grams of sugar in each serving. That’s a LOT. (5 grams = 1 teaspoon)

Fruit does tend to have a lot of sugar in it. I’m not sure how you could have less sugar in fruit when all you do is freeze dry it.
