Cloth Diapers – Happy Heinys One Size

Have you ever seen a cow print diaper? Have you ever seen a cuter diaper? When this little piece of adorableness arrived from Simple Wonders Diapers, I nearly squealed with excitement.

But would the Happy Heinys usefulness hold up to the cute?  Would it contain the ever changing results of a new-to-solid-foods baby?  Would the “one size” actually be small enough for my tiny little peanut who weighs 13 lbs at 8 months and yet be large enough to fit a friend’s toddler?  And most importantly, would the DH say “enough is enough” with the cloth diapers and quit on me?

Stay tuned to find out!

What it Came With

1 “one-size” diaper lined with super soft terry

1 large terry insert for bigger kiddos or messes

1 small terry insert for smaller kiddos or messes

1 instruction sheet

My Expectations

I expected this diaper to be no match for the BumGenius 3.0.  Honestly, I was thrilled with the other one-size I had tried, and couldn’t see how anything else would stack up.

The Results

Between getting my test diaper, and writing this review, I ordered four more happy Heinys One Size diapers, in a variety of colors.

Just like the other “one-size insert” style diapers we’ve tried, we don’t actually insert the inserts into the pocket.  I know, I know — I should follow the manufacturers instructions.  But the inserts are just as soft as the super soft liner, and if she just “wets”, then I don’t have to change the whole thing, just the insert portion.  Hey, I’m lazy!

Anyway, the microterry that these inserts are made of dry so fast, and are so light and easy.  I tuck one spare cover and 4 inserts in the diaper bag, and we are good for an entire day out and about, all adding almost no weight to my shoulderbag!

The snaps for the sizing hold super-securely, and the diaper itself functions wonderfully.  We’ve had no staining problems, and these dry in less than 1/2 the time of a pre-fold — a major time or energy savings, depending on whether you machine or line dry.

The cow print is, by far, the most adorable diaper we have, and if it is in the clean stack, it is the diaper DH will ALWAYS choose for changes.

There is just something about a baby wandering around in a cow print.

My only complaint, and I mean single solitary only complaint, is that the diaper is the only “cute” print in the one-size.  The single sizes have all kinds of adorableness, but the one-size limit you to either cow, or the same basic “nursery” colors as all the other manufacturers.

You know what, it’s a problem I can live with!

So, for those of you who like numbers:  10 is best, 1 is worst.

Prep Required: 10 – a single prep wash just like any other clothes.

Clarity: 10 – The instructions were simple, easy, and made sense the first time through.

Clean-up: 9 – after several poops, and countless wettings, there are no stains, but the velcro does tend to stick to the inserts in the wash.

Ease: 10 – Daddy chooses these diapers first, every single time

Overall Grade: 98% – A+

Conclusion

Do you want an easy cloth diapering experience with a diaper so soft your almost jealous yourself?  Then run, don’t walk to Simple Wonders Diapers and order some of these today.  You won’t regret it.

But don’t take my word for it.

Come back later in the week for a Happy Heinys One Size Giveaway, in the cow print, of course!

  1. If you love our cow print then you should see the new monkeys and peace bears that are just now being released to retailers. We also have 3 more being released in about a week and several more coming :)

Great review! I absolutely love my Happy Heinys size mediums…but as soon as those are too small, I will be ordering some of the one size! Thanks for the little hint on not stuffing…great idea!!! I am going to try it. These diapers are wonderful, and my cloth diaper resistant hubby no longer resists!

You should really remove or amend this review. Please do not suggest that using the insert of a Happy Heinys without putting it in the pocket is an appropriate alternative use of this diaper. Microterry should not be used directly against the skin. It absorbs so well that it can actually dry out and chap skin and can be very irritating. So it should be used inside a pocket diaper, or on the outside of a fitted or prefold. There should always be a layer of another textile between the skin and absorbent microterry. If you prefer this method of use, you could always buy some combo microterry/hemp or microterry/fleece inserts and use them in a wrap style cover…with the hemp or fleece layer towards the baby’s skin.
