Cabbage Patch Kids I Adore You
I love me some Cabbages from the Patches making the Kidzes and the whatnot.
It’s just difficult for me to say seriously because my love for the original Cabbage Patch Kids is a little embarrassing. Really, it is.
I had one when I was a kid. It wasn’t the one I wanted and I was seen by my family, that went all over heaven’s half-acre to find a CPK that looked exactly like me, as a total ingrate.
To this day i still want the little boy with the blue overalls with the little elephant and a tuft of blond hair on his little head.
But as an adult, soothing my painful memories is made way easier by the Limited Edition 25th Anniversary Cabbage Patch Kid…
We all have some memory of when Cabbage Patch Kids first came out. The absolute craze that swept seemingly normal people and turned them into monsters, fighting over stuffed dolls.
But they were really cool stuffed dolls.
I remember reports in my town of CPKs that had been stolen and then sold to the highest bidder. Of course this was pre-ebay, so the highest bidder was probably a lot harder to come by.
My original ‘Kid is long gone. Donated to my little sister when I moved to my great-grandmother’s house.
Now the Limited Edition 25th Anniversary Cabbage Patch Kid is going to give us all a chance to score another one. Because they’re using the original molds and the original materials and they are creating a run of ‘Kids just like the originals.
When I say just like the originals, I mean it. They’ll have the same names, same bodies, same clothes, same eyes, and same hair. This is a run of the originals all over again. You can replace your 20-year-old kid or buy him or her a twin that looked just like your old kid did the day you took it out of the box.
If your family didn’t get you a Cabbage Patch Kid when you were young, you can get one now for your little one. Or for yourself. Or both.
Did you have an original CPK when you were young? What did it look like? What happened to it?
You can share your memories here in the comments section (I’d love to hear them!) or over at www.cabbagepatchkids25.com with other lovers of the Cabbage Patch.
