Glide 2 Ride – Skip the Training Wheels! (giveaway)

There are a few things I worry about when it comes to buying Sadie her first bike.

  • Getting caught on the chain.
  • Falling.
  • Stopping the bike.
  • Getting caught on the pedals.

I’m sure every parent has these same worries, so when I was contacted by Hasbro to check out the new Playskool Glide 2 Ride bike, I thought, “Is this really going to be safer for my daughter?”

Come inside and let’s find out…

What it Comes With

The Playskool Glide 2 Ride is a bike that’s about 90% put together out of the box. You put in the handlebars and tighten, adjust the seat, pump up the tires, and if you’re not putting the pedals on right away…you’re ready to ride. A great way to avoid having to put together a bike for your kid the night before and trying to figure out how to put the hundred piece monster together at three in the morning. Simple and easy (just the way we like it around here!)

My Expectations

I had really high expectations of this bike. Hey, I’m an honest woman. When I see a pink bike that has all these safety features and is touted as being THE hot holiday toy for 2009 – I expect it to deliver in a big way.

The Results

Here is a video of Sadie, my 3 year old daughter, trying out the bike for the first time. She loves it, and I don’t have to worry about her getting tangled in anything.

Make sure the volume on the video isn’t turned all the way up. It’s like negative one million out and I’m huffing and puffing and cold. But don’t mute it – Sadie says some cute stuff.

After she turned around and went back toward the house, I caught her riding with a more confidant swagger. She almost falls, but rights herself, and then really starts cruising toward our front door!

Conclusion

It’s a huge hit, and I have no idea how I’m going to top this for Christmas. Or if I can top this for Christmas. Luckily she’s three so I can probably play it off and remind her as she’s unwrapping her gifts on Christmas morning that the bike was a Christmas present too. Because I don’t know that there is a toy available that could even come close to beating her first bike.

I love the fact that the Glide 2 Ride has both a hand brake and pedal brakes. I don’t have to dump it and buy a new bike once she learns the balancing act. The seat and handlebars both adjust about four inches up from where they are now – that’s at least a year if not a couple of years of good use. Yea!

I also think it’s nifty it comes in blue.

The Giveaway

You can win your choice of a pink or blue Glide 2 Ride for your little one (or the little one of someone you know). When a child gets a bike for the holidays, it is something they remember forever. Now you can give them that memory without having to worry about tottering, unstable training wheels making it more difficult than it needs to be.

  • Rules for gaining extra entries (and there are bunches of ways) can be found on the main Giving Thanks for Giveaways post.
  • Comments posted through Nov 21st @ midnight central time will be eligible to win.
  • A winner will be announced on the blog Nov 24th.

Good luck!

This looks like a very nice bike, my daughter is just at the age where she will need her first bike this coming spring, so I would love to win. She would pick the pink one of course, as she is a total girly-girl :)

My wife got one cheap from the mail. I think it was $49. The bike is heavy that three year old in the video files would not be able to life the bike. She is wearing knee pads to protect her knees from the bike not the ground. Looks a little over engineered and not well designed in geometry.

Justin – if you want to give your child a crappy bike that’s made so poorly and is so light they can lift it up, that’s your business.

My daughter loves it and was able to use it RIGHT out of the box – this video is right after it was assembeled. I didn’t give her any time to practice or prepare.

When I was a kid I caught my shoelaces many times in my training wheels and I was a lot more awkward when I turned it around than she was. Training wheels made it darn near impossible to turn a bike – and the kids that I know that do have training wheels aren’t lifting up their bikes, either.

I’m sorry you don’t like it, but you’re making judgements without ever having seen anything but my video, which shows my daughter being a ROCK STAR on the bike.

Please don’t tell me why I put knee pads on my child. I don’t tell you that you had to get a cheap bike because you’re don’t have a choice, not because it was a good value, do I?

    Hi Jenny,
Great videos….. and Sadie looks so cute. Do you still think the Glide 2 Ride is still a great bike. I’ve seen it at a local store and think my daughter Isabel (Age 3) would love it.
    Thanks
